If you have a collection of old home movies recorded on videotapes or old film reels, chances are you have no way to view them. The good news is that you can indeed convert home videos into MP4 video files to save, view, and share with your family. It is also a smart and safe idea. As videotapes and film reels age, it gets harder to preserve the content stored on them.

When you choose Nostalgic Media to convert videotapes and film reels to digital, you can rest easy knowing that your family treasures are being transformed into safe, long-lasting MP4 video files to view and share with family for years and years to come.

Please be patient while the server creates the file(s), which can take several minutes to several hours, depending on the length of the presentation. Hello, we are having trouble downloading .MP4 files that are vertical onto our iPhones. The files are only about 15-17 MB and our phones have plenty of storage space. We are trying to download from Dropbox. When we download horizontal videos with the same specs they download just fine to our Camera Roll. However, it keeps telling us that the vertical videos cannot be saved. Any tips? Thanks!

The location of your downloaded files will depend on what you downloaded and the app that you used to download it. Most of your files are organised within the My Files app, however some files will not appear here. Some apps, such as Netflix, store their downloads securely on your phone and are only available through the app itself.

Note: Not all downloaded content will be available in My Files. Content that has been downloaded within a streaming app that allows listening or viewing offline will normally be available only within that app itself. This is most commonly due to copyright restrictions.

Coming from Windows background, I'm usually very paranoid about the files I download, but one time I did something stupid - I downloaded some video files that were hosted in (not a malicious website, but it does store files that can have just about anything on them).

So without even answering your follow-up questions yet, you are safe. If you want to feel even safer (and truly ensure that your Mac is unaffected), you can download an antivirus app like Avast or BitDefender as I explain in this answer.

So even if this was an application file (.dmg) masquerading as an audio or video file, you'd still be safe. Read more about how you're still safe even if you downloaded a malicious application file (so long as you don't manually install it) in this answer.

Edit 1: A notable exception to this "a file can't harm your Mac unless it's an application" rule is the Word .docx macro. Word documents (and documents for Excel and the rest of Open Office, thanks WGroleau) can try to convince you to run them as a macro, essentially turning them into mini-applications. These can be malware, so never run a downloaded Word document as a macro. Read more about Word macro malware.

Edit 2: Email attachments can look like .mp3 files or .jpg files, but actually be .dmg files disguised as such. Whereas when you download a file from the web you'll get a prompt that lets you know what file type you're about to download, you may have no such warning when opening an email attachment. Thus, don't open a suspicious email attachment even if it claims to be a .mp4/.mp3/.jpg/.png/.pdf format thinking it's necessarily safe.

Gone are the simple days of moving pictures and practical effects. These days, movies are more sophisticated, with computer-generated special effects and high-resolution images. However, each addition to a film or episode adds to the file size, which can make both downloading for at-home viewing and the process of creating the project more complicated than ever before.

By far the easiest way to find downloaded files on Android is to look in your app drawer for an app called Files or My Files. Google's Pixel phones come with a Files app, while Samsung phones come with an app called My Files. Regardless of which device, once you find and open the file manager, use it to look for the Downloads folder and open it.

There you will find your downloaded files in chronological order (newest to oldest, in most cases). You can, however, change how the files are sorted. In Samsung's My Files app, tap on the three-dot menu icon and then select "Sort by." In the Files app on a Pixel phone, tap on the "Modified" text to change how the app sorts your files.

If you don't like the default file manager app on your Android phone, or it doesn't have one, download the Files by Google app (formerly Files Go) from the Play Store. The app is easy to navigate, provides quick access to your downloads folder and helps you free up storage space.

Once you've installed the app, you can find your downloaded files by selecting the Browse tab at the bottom of the app, then tapping Downloads. Tap a file to open it, or long-press on it to select the file and delete, share or rename it. 2ff7e9595c
