Having already supported Alt-J at Wembley and released an incredible debut album, Gengahr are on track for a meteoric rise. This was evident during their set on Sunday (August 30) at Reading 2015, the Festival Republic tent was packed to the edges as Gengahr performed equal parts combustion and calm.
From London with love: An interview with Gengahr on the release of their debut album ‘A Dream Out
Ho99o9: Despite appearing hellbent on destruction, Ho99o9 (pronounced HORROR) are an unmissable live prospect. Hailing from New Jersey and blending elements of hip hop, punk and blistering white noise, the duo are currently adding the finishing touches to their debut album, with their live shows as unpredictable as their recorded output - just don't blame us if you don't make it out alive.
April Towers: "Party in the hot sun, no care, all fun," declare April Towers in the rousing call to arms of their huge single, 'A Little Bit Of Fear' - emphasised even further on the massive follow-up 'Modern Psyche'. A million miles from what you'd expect of Nottingham, but the the ultimate escapist summer. Notts duo Alex Noble and Charlie Burley conjure up the true decadent and free spirit of the season with a number that takes the tropical electro of the likes of Hot Chip and LCD Soundsystem with the brooding anthemics of Interpol and send them racing ever skywards. There's no two ways about it, if April Towers aren't massive in 2016, then there is no justice in the world.
CDM: Why was it important to you that this new album be more personal than your debut?FELIX: The first time around, I didn't really have the confidence to make it personal. It felt easier to cover things in metaphors and remove myself from the songs and just make them their own narratives. I always enjoy the story-telling element of writing songs - all my favourite songs are probably narrative-based ones when I think back to when I was a kid and the first sort of music that I really enjoyed listening to and found inspiring. So that remains in there, but I've turned the spotlight slightly closer towards myself than it was previously.
Together less than two years, London-based quartet Gengahr are making all the right noises (literally) in the music press. Their debut album A Dream Outside is out 15th June on Transgressive Records and Josh Jones caught up with lead singer Felix Bushe to see how they were doing.
Does the world need another songwriter with a first name, a surname, and a guitar?Make that a horn section, a harp, a piano and an orchestra for good measure. When this Nashville-based 28-year-old sings about departed love on her eponymous debut album, she does so to spring-green strings, sunbursts of brass and bright flowerings of keys and flute.
Peter Daltrey, frontman of 1960s psychedelic band Kaleidoscope, was in town performing at the Blast Off Festival. After he came off stage, we caught up with him to talk about his 50 years in music and the forthcoming re-release of their debut album, Tangerine Dream.
The last track they played during their long drawn out set was a medley of Bring The Sun, from To Be Kind, and a new track, Black Hole Man. Bring The Sun was definitely much louder and noisier than the studio version but they mainly just played through the middle of track which was a constant repetition of very harsh playing from every member of the band before they suddenly launched into the very Post-Punk / No Wave track that was Black Hole Man. This track was essentially a combination of the sound they have going on now mixed with some of their very early material dating back to their 1982 self-titled EP and was definitely the highlight of the night. The band were playing a repetitive groove with Michael Gira providing his very erratic vocals before it turned into a very large wall of noise that happened to be louder than anything they played that night; the track went on for over a half an hour and essentially proved to everyone that Michael Gira and co. show absolutely no sign of stopping anytime soon and still have a very long career ahead of them.

It started with notes scribbled on napkins. Ben Lovett was touring the 2015 album Wilder Mind with his band, Mumford and Sons, and sketching out his dream venue on whatever paper scraps he could. Having previously built his reputation for curation on a club-night-turned-independent-record-label called Communion, Ben wanted to give that spirit a home in the form of a music venue. Ben turned his dream into a reality called Omeara, a 320-capacity venue near London Bridge.
"Everything I Wanted" (stylized in all lowercase) is a song by American singer and songwriter Billie Eilish, and co-written by Eilish and her brother Finneas O'Connell, who also produced it. Darkroom and Interscope Records released the track as a standalone single on November 13, 2019, and later added it to the deluxe edition of Eilish's debut studio album When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? (2019) in December that year. It is a house and electronica-influenced pop and alternative pop track with minimal piano and downtempo bass guitar instrumentation. Inspired by a nightmare she experienced, the song is about Eilish's strong relationship with O'Connell and his protectiveness of her from harm.
"Everything I Wanted" received acclaim from critics, several of whom praised the music and lyrics. The song reached number eight on the US Billboard Hot 100, becoming Eilish's second top-ten hit in the United States. It debuted at number one in the record charts of several countries, including Ireland and Norway, and peaked at number three on the UK Singles Chart. "Everything I Wanted" has received several certifications, including quadruple platinum in Canada. On November 24, 2020, the song received nominations for Song of the Year, and Best Pop Solo Performance at the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards, making it Eilish's second consecutive year for earning a nomination in such categories, with it winning Record of the Year. 2ff7e9595c
