1971 Hindi Movie: The Award-Winning Films that Made History at the National Film Awards

The movie was Clint Eastwood's debut as a director, and it was a good beginning. He must have learned a lot during seventeen years of working for other directors. In particular, he must have learned a lot from Don Siegel, who directed his previous four movies and has a bit part (the bartender) in this one. There is no wasted energy in "Play Misty for Me." Everything contributes to the accumulation of terror, until even the ordinary, daytime scenes seem to have unspeakable things lurking beneath them.

In this connection, Eastwood succeeds in filming the first Semi-Obligatory Lyrical Interlude that works. The Semi-OLI, you'll recall, is the scene where the boy and girl walk in the meadow and there's a hit song on the sound track. In Eastwood's movie, he walks in the meadow with the girl, but the scene has been prepared so carefully that the meadow looks ominous. The grass looks muddy, the shadows are deep, the sky is gray, and there is a chill in the air. The whole visual style of the movie is strangely threatening.

1971 Hindi Movie

The movie revolves around a character played with an unnerving effectiveness by Jessica Walter. She is something like flypaper; the more you struggle against her personality, the more tightly you're held. Clint Eastwood, in directing himself, shows that he understands his unique movie personality. He is strong but somehow passive, he possesses strength but keeps it coiled inside. And so the movie, by refusing to release any emotion at all until the very end, absolutely wrings us dry. There is no purpose to a suspense thriller, I suppose, except to involve us, scare us, to give us moments of vicarious terror. "Play Misty for Me" does that with an almost cruel efficiency.

Shooting on locations and trying to recreate 1971 in 2017 was a nightmare. But thankfully, the production team of Dharma Productions was on point that they made everything doable and simple. And also the grey line, the duality in the film are quite tricky and to be able to execute that and do it authentically and still communicate what you want to say, was not easy. But, I am glad that it turned out the way it is.

I think the patriotism you are talking about is the patriotism of today. What I am showing is the patriotism that used to be in 1971. A lot of it was about shouting less and doing more, which is actually how it used to be. But I am actually glad that people have liked the film because when we step out of the cloud of social media, real people, two people are actually like this, like they subscribe to the patriotism that the film talks about which is why they have accepted it the way they have.

1971: Haathi Mere Saathi (M. A. Thirumugam): Well this is a nice journeyman kind of movie! The director had made dozens of films by this time, most of them produced by his brother, in all kinds of different languages. And then somehow they stumbled on the simple but brilliant idea of a man and his elephants, put in an incredibly catchy title song, and lucked into Rajesh Khanna right at the peak of his career. And TA-DA! A hit is born! 16.35 crore (equivalent to 611 crore)

And then next time you get to come back for the super exciting era when there was no Amitabh!!!! When he was off getting caught up in political scandals instead of making movies and no one really knew what to do. Until he came back like to rule again (SHAHENSHAH!!!!)

In the film, Ishaan will be seen playing Captain Mehta of the 45th Cavalry tank squadron who fought on India's eastern front during the Indo-Pakistan war of 1971, which led to the creation of Bangladesh. The film's title is a reference to the Russian amphibious tank called the PT-76, popularly known as 'Pippa', which features prominently in the film.

Pippa is backed by Ronnie Screwvala's RSVP and Siddharth Roy Kapur's Roy Kapur Films. Sharing more details about the project, Screwvala said, " 'Pippa,' set in 1971 against the backdrop of one of the largest refugee migrations in modern history that then led to the liberation and formation of a country is a story that must be told and we can't wait to unravel the scale of this epic movie to audiences worldwide."

The year 1971 gave us many super movies and though 50 years have passed by, yet, some of these movies are still fresh in our memory. We have seen some of them several times each and hummed/sang their songs on countless occasions.

Here is my list ( in alphabetical order) of my ten top Hindi films of the year with some information and trivia. I have mentioned some of the terrific songs of these movies. Maybe, while reading this blog, you will be humming these songs. That would be simply great. 2ff7e9595c
